Ingredients

Scale

For the Cranberry Sauce:

  • 1 cup fresh cranberries
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon honey

For the Chili:

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1 (15-ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1 cup salsa (mild or spicy, depending on preference)
  • 1 (15-ounce) can beans (black beans or kidney beans, drained and rinsed)

For Garnish (Optional):

  • Reserved whole cranberries
  • Chopped fresh cilantro
  • Sour cream or shredded cheese

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Cranberry Sauce

  1. In a food processor, blend fresh cranberries, sugar, and honey until smooth.
  2. Set aside a few whole cranberries for garnish.
  3. Set the sauce aside to allow the flavors to meld.

Step 2: Cook the Turkey and Build the Flavor Base

  1. In a large pot, melt butter over medium heat.
  2. Add the diced onions and sauté until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds, stirring constantly.
  4. Add the ground turkey, breaking it into small pieces as it browns. Cook until no longer pink.
  5. Stir in the chili powder and garlic salt, coating the turkey with the seasoning.

Step 3: Simmer and Perfect the Chili

  1. Stir in the tomato sauce, salsa, beans, and prepared cranberry sauce.
  2. Increase heat and bring to a boil.
  3. Once boiling, reduce heat to low, cover, and let simmer for about 1 hour, stirring occasionally.

Step 4: Serve and Enjoy

  1. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
  2. Ladle the chili into bowls and garnish with whole cranberries, chopped cilantro, or a dollop of sour cream.

Notes

  • Make it Spicier: Add diced jalapeños or extra chili powder.
  • For a Thicker Chili: Let it simmer longer, or add a small amount of cornstarch mixed with water.

  • Serving Suggestion: Serve with warm cornbread or over a bed of rice for a heartier meal.
